In conversation with Jon Trafford

In this conversation between Jon Trafford and Dera Digest, he reflects on that full-circle journey: from young teacher to outgoing Rector, and on what Peterhouse has represented at each stage along the way.

Jon first began his teaching career at Peterhouse in the 1980s, where his foundations as an educator were laid. That early experience helped shape his approach to teaching and leadership, and influenced the course of his subsequent career as he went on to work in a number of leading independent schools in South Africa.

Peterhouse has remained a constant reference point throughout that journey, a place of enduring memories, formative experiences, and lasting relationships. It is therefore particularly significant that, by the end of this year, Jon will have
completed seven years as Rector (2020–2026). In an interesting parallel, that period mirrors the length of his very first teaching appointment at the school many years ago.
